Curriculum
2 Semesters/2 Credits

Core 40 Elective

Accounting I: A Business Course that introduces the language of business using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and procedures for proprietorships and partnerships using double-entry accounting. Emphasis is placed on accounting principles as they relate to both manual and automated financial systems. This course involves understanding, analyzing, and recording business transactions and preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial reports as a basis for decision making.

Recommended Prerequisites: Business Foundations, Computer Applications, and a grade of “C” or better in Algebra I.

Grade Levels: 10, 11, and 12


2 Semesters/2 Credits

Core 40 Elective

Business Foundations: Introductory Business Course provides the framework for all future business courses. This core course introduces students to economics, entrepreneurship, management, marketing, law, risk management, banking, personal finance, and careers in business. The importance and application of business etiquette and ethics are also included.

Recommended Prerequisites: None

Grade Levels: 9, 10


2 Semesters/2 Credits

Core 40 Elective

Business and Personal Law: Business and Personal Law provides an overview of the legal system. Topics covered include: Basics of the Law, Contract Law, Employment Law, Personal Law, and Property Law. Both criminal and civil trial procedures are presented.

Recommended Prerequisites: Business Foundations or Accounting I and a grade of “C” or higher.

Grade Levels: 11, 12

Computer Applications: Computer Applications is a business course that provides instruction software concepts using a Windows-based professional suite, which includes word processing, keyboarding, and presentation applications. Instruction in basic computer hardware and operating syst4ems that support software application is provided. Additional concepts and applications dealing with software integration, Internet use, and information about future technology trends are included.

Recommended Prerequisites: None

Grade Levels: 9, 10

Core 40 Elective

Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurship is a specialized business course designed to enable students to acquire the knowledge and develop the skills needed to effectively organize, develop, create, and manage their own business. Topics addressed include the assessment of entrepreneurial skills, the importance of business ethics, and the role of entrepreneurs in a free enterprise system. Students will develop a written business plan for a business of their choice.

Recommended Prerequisite: Marketing or Business Foundations

Grade Levels: 11, 12

Core 40 Elective

Marketing: Marketing Foundations is a business course that provides a basic introduction to the scope and importance of marketing in the global economy. Emphasis is placed on oral and written communications, mathematical applications, problem solving, and critical thinking skills as they relate to advertising/promotion/selling, distribution, financing, marketing-information management, pricing, and product/service management.

Recommended Prerequisite: Computer Applications

Grade Level: 10, 11, 12

Personal Finance: Personal Finance is a business course that focuses on personal financial planning. The content includes financial planning, income and asset protection, income and money management, and spending and credit management. Students will learn the financial concepts and principles that provide a basis for avoiding financial pitfalls. This course prepares students for the roles and responsibilities of consumers, producers, entrepreneurs, and citizens.

Bishop Noll Institute National Business Honor Society

The National Business Honor Society (NBHS) was established to encourage, provide professional service, and to recognize the accomplishments, outstanding achievements, and personal excellence of students within the Bishop Noll business department.

Eligibility
Students must be currently enrolled in a business course.
Seniors:
Must complete 3 semesters in business courses by the end of the current school year.
Sophomores/Juniors: Must complete 2 semesters in business courses by the end of the current school year (student should be planning to continue for at least one additional credit prior to graduation).

Academic Requirements
Overall Academic Standing in Business Education Courses-GPA- 3.0
Overall Academic Standing- GPA – 2.5

Extracurricular Involvement
Students selected for recognition will have also demonstrated both in the classroom and through extracurricular involvement:
Character (evidenced by teachers attesting to this quality).
Leadership (evidenced by committee chair positions, officer/chair or other lead positions in student organizations, civic/community leadership roles, etc.).
Service (evidenced by volunteer activities in the school and/or community, etc.)

Mission Statement
The mission of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is to bring business and education together in a positive way. Furthermore, it strives to develop an understanding of the business world through innovative leadership and career development programs. We the students of Bishop Noll Institute want to instill a moral code in all that we do, not just in the classroom, but beyond. We believe that by following the concept of “Professionalism” we will be successful future leaders of our community, society, and generation.

What is FBLA?
FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America; we are part of the National Branch of FBLA. We are an association of business students learning firsthand how business works and developing our own leadership skills. Regardless of the fields we choose, we are the ones leading the nation’s businesses and industries with business savvy and thorough knowledge in leadership and professionalism.

Future Business Leaders of America membership is open to any Bishop Noll Institute High School student with a serious interest in business and who wants to be successful. Since Future Business Leaders of America is extracurricular, students are encouraged to enroll in Business Classes as well.

When and Where Does FBLA Meet?
Regular Meetings are held every other week in Bishop Noll’s Business Department, Room B330.
