Bishop Noll's melting pot of cultures has increased this year with three foreign exchange students making Bishop Noll their home for the academic year.

Noll welcomed Trong Ngo, Mirko Kentera and Valery Yakovenko in August. The three students’ visiting from Asia and Europe will spend this academic year learning the American way of life in the classroom.

Trong Ngo, a senior, is from Vietnam, said he wanted a better education and chose Noll after being prompted by his aunt who knew of Noll'
s excellent academic standing. Ngo said he is making many new friends and enjoys the school's friendly atmosphere. Ngo has also taken on an after-school job at his aunt's restaurant. He is also looking forward to graduation and attending Purdue University to study Business Management.

Another senior, Mirko Kentera is visiting Noll this year from Serbia-Montenegro. Kentera said he is looking forward to improving his English and the American lifestyle during his visit. Kentera also commented on the amount of friends he has made since his enrollment at Noll and how he has been welcomed by his peers during the first weeks of school. Kentera will be staying with his grandparents during his visit.

Valery Yakovensko, a junior at Noll visiting from the Ukraine is staying with a host family who has two children enrolled at Noll. Yakovensko said she is enjoying her Noll experience. Her favorite class is U.S. History instructed by Mr. Larry Bentley and she also enjoys watching American Football. Yakovensko said she is looking forward to learning American culture and beginning her new life in the U.S. Yakovensko said she will be presenting projects on her home country as part of her enrollment in the Future Leaders Exchange Program. Yakovensko said she misses her parents, family and friends in the Ukraine.

Senior John Conway of Hammond has taken the initiative to help the foreign exchange students get adjusted to Noll. He is helping them become acclimated in the classroom and with their classmates. Conway said he helps the students during class when they have a difficult time understanding a particular lesson and is helping them with their English.

In other Noll news, our third annual Principal's Reception was held Sept. 6 at the school. This is an evening dedicated to our major donors from the last fiscal year. The guests enjoyed a selection of wines and hors' d'oeuvres provided by Comforts Catering of Saint John. A tour was led by our Principal Scott D Fech through the renovated classrooms and our new Chapel. Noll administrators talked about the school's future goals in academics, enrollment and fundraising specifically the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is the school's largest single fundraising effort. The money raised goes to help support scholarships and help to fill the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each student at Noll. With the support of our alumni & friends the job of "Creating Our Future" at Noll becomes a reality.
