There is something about Bishop Noll that brings people back. This year the Bishop Noll Athletic Department appointed three Noll alums to head coaching positions. Anna Boyle '00 of Schererville has taken the reins as Women's Varsity Volleyball Coach. Boyle has two years of experience as an Assistant at Calumet College and served one year as Junior Varsity Coach at Calumet High School. Boyle holds a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and is employed through the School City of Hammond. Boyle said she is looking forward to a great season and has been impressed from the first day of conditioning with the girls’ dedication and talent. Boyle said it feels like "home" to be back at Noll and notes how wonderful it is to have parents and students involved at school.

Lorenza Jara, '01 has been appointed Women’s Soccer Coach and will also serve as Varsity Softball Coach. Jara of Whiting has been an Assistant Soccer Coach at Noll for two years and has also served as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach and Junior Varsity Softball Coach. Jara describes her coaching style as intense and said she would never allow a player to not work towards their full potential.

Jara was also hired as a Physical Education teacher and will also teach two classes of Health Education at Noll. Jara holds a degree in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Health from IU. Jara noted it feels great to back at Noll and knew she would be back at Noll at some point.

Mike Juscik '89 has come back to the area as Head Football Coach. Juscik returned this summer after several years of serving as an Assistant Coach at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan. Juscik attended Purdue University Calumet and Ball State University and was a walk on for Ball State Football and was a member of the 1993 Las Vegas Bowl Team. Juscik holds a bachelors degree from Ball State University in Exercise Science and a Masters from Saginaw Valley State University. Juscik said he has a lot of good memories about Noll and feels fantastic about giving back to the school that helped shape his life. Juscik said he wants his players to be very informed and believes Saturday through Thursday is for the coaches and Friday is for the players.

Aside from athletics, Noll alums continue to give back in a variety of capacities. Pete Doherty '71 and Dave Surufka '71 co-chaired their tenth annual golf outing in support of Bishop Noll. The outing was held on July 16 at Briar Ridge County Club and attracted alumni and friends of Noll to enjoy a day of laughter and a time to share memories and reconnect. Top golfers of the day created a three way tie for first place. Winning teams were Ron & Barb Jerzyk, Beth Jerzyk '98 and Joe Manchak; Larry Raab, Andy Raab, Al Elliot and Lee Chabet; Steve Dahlkamp, Randy Conn and John Garcia.

A notable alum gave back on another special day. Chicagoland Journalist Phil Ponce '67 was guest speaker at graduation in June. Ponce shared six money back guaranteed keys to success, with the class of 2007, in short they were:

Number one: Visualize what you want your life to be. Create a specific image in your mind.

Number two: Always have a strong network of people you know. Good things happen to people who know other people.

Number three: The most important life skill you can have is the ability to get along with other people. To be someone who's good to have in class, in the office, in the workplace.

Number four: and it's connected to number three. Be a positive person. Be upbeat.

Number five: Be willing to say you’re wrong and to apologize.

Number six: and this is a cliché but it is really true. Luck is nothing more than when preparation meets opportunity.

Congratulations again to the class of 2007 may all of you be successful in your lives after Noll.
