Editorial Column
May 30, 2008

Greetings alumni and friends of Bishop Noll Institute, as you read this column; our seniors are just a week away from embarking on their new chapter in life. The excitement that has been building up for the past several months will burst into joy, laughter and some tears on graduation day.

Our students have excelled in the classroom, on the stage, on the athletic field and in many other activities that have shaped them into well-rounded young adults. Speaking of excelling in the classroom, the class salutatorian, Thomas Clements received the Principal's scholarship while enrolled here at Noll, and managed to maintain it all four years by accumulating a 4.37 career grade-point average and making the Summa Cum Laude Honor Roll all seven semesters. Thomas was named an AP scholar and was a member of the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association High School All-Academic Team. Thomas will be attending Purdue University to major in science with a possible mathematics minor

Heather Wanek, ranked tenth, has been a Student Ambassador, an active member of the volleyball and tennis teams, and a Student Council homeroom representative.  For two years, she has been a part of the Service Club and National Honor Society as well.  She  also helped out with the boy’s varsity basketball and baseball teams.  By far Heather believes her biggest accomplishment was when she was nominated to be an officer for National Honor Society.  While participating in all of these activities she has also maintained two part time jobs.  Finding a balance between school work, extra curricular activities, and two jobs was a challenge but she believes it was an accomplishment worth achieving.

The students of the class of 2008 could not have arrived at their special day without the help of many people. Members of the Noll community have all taken a special in shaping our students into young men and women.

Primarily, our seniors could not have reached this day without the love and support of their parents, guardians and families. The new car that they could have bought or the vacation they could have taken – sacrificed for a Noll education. The active participation by many parents in our parents’ club or helping around the Noll campus, speaks volumes of their involvement in their students’ academic careers.

Our seniors could not have reached this day without the support and dedication of our administration, faculty and staff. The staff of more then 70 people at Noll dedicates themselves in many facets to help our students. The faculty creates lesson plans, grade papers, stays after and comes in before school to offer tutoring.

The BNI staff who works behind the scenes offers support to our faculty and administration.

The BNI Administration that brings their expertise to ensure we fulfill our mission and continue to move BNI forward. All of us at Noll have played in role in the success of the class of 2008.

Finally, our seniors could not have reached this day without their own sacrifice and dedication. The rigorous curriculum they have endured during their tenure, the many nights of staying up to study for that important test, the long days they have put in with their participation in athletics and extracurricular activities, the part time jobs they have taken to earn extra cash, all these components have laid the groundwork for the road the ahead of them.

Seniors, you have made us all proud – this is your time to shine, smile and look back at the memories you have shared with each other. On behalf of the entire Noll community we congratulate you and extend our best wishes in all you do in your lives. The road is yours – we have given you the keys, and now it’s your turn to take the wheel and begin your journey.

Congratulations to the class of 2008 – you are forever Warriors.
