Greetings - alumni and friends of Bishop Noll Institute.  The spirit and pride of Bishop Noll were in full swing during Catholic Schools Week. The week of January 28 was filled with events showcasing the best of Noll. This year’s theme was “Light the Way” and Noll’s Development Office did just that with our Annual Fund Phonathon. Noll alumni, current parents, board members and students worked three nights calling alumni asking for their support and pledged more than $18.000.
The administration continues to “Light the Way” with our annual Scholarship Recognition Breakfast. Through the generosity of alumni and friends, Noll has established scholarships for our Prep Academy and High School students who excel in academics, are active in their communities and school and perhaps are in significant need. This year’s gathering welcomed over 175 students, their families, Noll adminsitrators, representatives from our Board of Trustees and donors who were all treated to a continental breakfast as the students were recognized for their accomplishments.
Noll teachers “Light the Way” at school each day. Noll’s faculty and staff were treated to a special lunch in their honor for their work and dedication to Catholic Education.
Noll’s Board of Directors also held a special celebration honoring Noll’s faculty and staff. The event was held in the school’s library with a catered menu and beverages. Noll Principal Scott D. Fech along with Superintendent of Diocese of Gary Schools, Dr. Barbara O’Block and Board of Trustees President Jerry Skrabala spoke to the faculty and staff about their appreciation for the work, dedication and sacrifice they make for Noll.
Nearly 1,000 Catholic School students attended Catholic Schools Week Mass held at Noll on Wednesday. During this special event, Bishop Dale J. Melczek led the celebration and was also recognized for his 25 year anniversary of his ordination. Catholic schools from Whiting, Hammond, East Chicago, Gary, Highland, Munster and Griffith also presented gifts to Bishop Melczek after Mass for his anniversary.
Noll could not “Light the Way” without our students and they were recognized on student appreciation day with the Walt Disney movie “Aladdin” and our Parents Club provided a special snack during lunch.
Turning to other school news, Noll Drama Department started rehearsals for their spring theatrical production of The Diary of Ann Frank. Directed by veteran Noll teacher Elizabeth Conley, the play will be another great Noll Theatre Department production.  Students are scheduled to take the stage in April. Contact Noll’s theater department for more information.
Noll’s Admissions Office organized our Prep Academy Open House on February 5 and families were given tours of our 21ST Century Digital Learning Centers. Families had a chance to meet Prep Academy Faculty and Administrators.  Noll’s Prep Academy was established in early 2007 and opened to its first students in August. The Prep Academy has made Noll the school to follow in education throughout Northwest Indiana. Contact Noll’s Admissions Office for more information.
Don’t forget to save the date of April 18th for our annual Emporium – New Horizons. This is Noll’s largest single day fundraiser which raises money for our Scholarship Fund. We are also sponsoring our Warrior Winnings Raffle at $10 per ticket. Contact Matt Chico at mchico@bishopnoll.org or 219-932-9058 for information and to purchase your ticket today.
As I look outside my window, I see snow and ice. I know I am looking forward to warmer months and our annual BNI Golf Outing on July 21.  Noll Golf Outing Committee has started planning this special event aimed at helping raising funds for our students. Stay tuned for more information.
Once again, thank you to all who made Catholic Schools Week such a success, I invite you to stop by and see the success in action at 1519 Hoffman Street.
