PRESS ROOM

Editorial Column
February 1, 2008

Greetings alumni and friends of Bishop Noll Institute! As you read this column, Bishop Noll and Catholic Schools across the country will be ending “Catholic Schools Week 2008”.  This year’s theme was “Light the Way.”  The week was filled with a myriad of activities that reflect the spirit and pride of the Noll community.  Noll hosted more then 900 students and teachers for our Catholic Schools Week Mass, a time to reflect on how Catholic Education has impacted the lives of thousands of students and families across Northwest Indiana. Noll, specifically, has had a great impact on the lives of our current students, faculty and staff and our more than 18,000 alumni. I would like to take some time to thank those of you who have made Noll the school it is today and for believing in Catholic education.
Noll would not exist without the sacrifice and dedication of parents and guardians. These individuals believe in Noll’s mission and the quality of education that our students receive. Some families work two jobs to provide their children with a Noll education. Our second year of Exemplary rating from the Indiana Department of Education speaks volumes about the quality of education our students receive everyday.  The hard work and sacrifice of our parents and guardians is mirrored by our students working vigorously in their classrooms.
Noll would not be here today without our talented students. Our students infuse our building everyday with their youthful spirit in the classroom, athletics and extracurricular activities. Noll students are eager to come to school everyday.
Our students’ participation in athletics and extracurricular activities instills discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Their participation in these activities has helped Noll achieve success outside the academic arena.
Noll would not have achieved its educational accomplishments without the hard work of our talented administration, faculty and staff.   Noll’s administration under the leadership and guidance of Principal Scott D. Fech, ’85 has placed Noll back on top, since his appointment in the fall of 2002.  Noll’s administrative team works together in admissions, development, finance and athletics to achieve outstanding results that has made Noll the school of choice.  Noll’s faculty goes above and beyond the call of duty for their students. Faculty members are seen staying after school to assist students in tutoring, helping students’ make-up assignments and dedicating time as an extracurricular club sponsor or athletic coach. Noll’s support staff provides much assistance behind the scenes to our faculty and administration.
Noll would not be able to achieve its progress in converting our school into a 21st century digital learning center without the help of our alumni and friends. As I have said before, we have doubled our annual giving to more than $194,000 last year. This speaks volumes for our alums & friends who continue to believe in Noll and have given back to support Noll. Their assistance has helped Noll once again become the premier educational institution in Northwest Indiana.
Once again, thank you to all of you who believe in Catholic Education and in Noll. There are great things on the horizon at 1519 Hoffman St - Northwest Indiana’s premier educational center
.
