Greeting alumni and friends of Bishop Noll Institute, much is happening on the Noll campus after a restful Christmas vacation.
After months of research and development our new website www.bishopnoll.org was launched in mid December. The new website will provide the up-to-date information on admissions, academics, school news and alumni affairs.
Prospective families will have access to information on BNI placement information, testing dates, and student shadow information. Current Noll parents will continue to access their students’ academic standings and stay informed on Noll activities, alumni can visit our site to find classmates, find out about reunions and other events, even to make the Annual gift and naturally to stay connected their alma mater. Stop by and visit -www.bishopnoll.org
In other Noll news, two special groups were recognized during half-time when our Noll Boys Basketball Warriors hosted Hammond High on January 12. The Bishop Noll Prep Academy Soccer Team won the CYO Soccer Championship. The Prep Academy Team was comprised of Angel Zamudio, Jesse Escamilla, Pablo Rodriguez, Glen Doughty, Trevor Tauberschmidt, Zachary Ruiz, Kevin Kearney, Yesenia Avila, Ryan Ward, Jordan Taylor, Alex Pizana, Will Kasprzycki, Alex Calatayd, Thad Castro, Donovan Hayes, Jim Mullaney, Velvetena Springer, Anthony Rodriguez, Cesar-Roman Avila, Hector Calderon, Lawrence Neely and coaches Gerald Doughty and Tom Payonk.  Great work for a first year effort!
Also during half-time, some special Noll alumni were recognized for their assistance during our Annual Fund – Noll’s largest fundraising effort. These alumni were just a few of the dozens who served as Class Agents and signed hundreds of letters that are mailed to their classmates.  Their efforts have helped double our Annual Fund drive to more than $195,000 last year.  These special alum’s embody one of the many ways Noll alumni are giving back to their alma mater.
On the academic front, the first Freshman placement exam for the class of 2012 took place on January 12 and more than 80 students tested. Noll’s admissions office will host an in-house placement exam for our current 8th grade Prep Academy students and an additional test will be offered January 26 at 7:30 am. Contact Noll’s admissions office for more information.
In education news, Noll along with Catholic schools across the country will celebrate Catholic Schools beginning Monday, January 28. Some events taking place that week will be a Mass celebrated by Bishop Dale J. Melczek with more than 1,000 area elementary schools in attendance to celebrate and give thanks for all those who support Catholic Education.  Our Scholarship Recognition Breakfast will take place on Jan. 29 at the school. The breakfast event shows appreciation for our scholarship donors, our scholarship students and their parents too. Other events will include a faculty and staff appreciation day and student appreciation day. During that week, Noll’s Development Office will spearhead our annual Phonathon through the assistance of alumni, students and Bishop Noll Board of Trustees Members.
The week will end with the Parents Club annual Candlelight Bowl on Feb. 2 at Olympia Lanes. This is an excellent opportunity for Noll families, alumni and friends to come together and celebrate a weeks worth of activities in celebration of our school.
As the bitter cold sweeps the region, we are looking forward to spring and we want you to save the date for April 18 for our 27th Annual Emporium – Noll’s largest single day fundraiser. This years Emporium is co-chaired by Noll alums, Errol G. Clarkson 97’ and Lisa Kozlowski Kusiak ’88.  Several other Noll alumni are serving on the committee and will be devoting many hours to this year’s event.  “New Horizons” is the theme. Hope to see you there!
And on a personal note, on behalf of the entire graduating class of 2002 I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Belko family. Our classmate, Jason Belko, passed away on Saturday, January 12 at the age of 23. I shared a few classes with Jason and he would often have a way of making us laugh during and after class. Jason participated in hockey and golf at Noll and he will be in the hearts and thoughts of the entire Bishop Noll Community.  God Bless.
